Looking for a contemporary artwork that’s affordable?
Keen to have a range of contemporary art and accessories to browse at your leisure online?
Then take a look at the new and unique concept that is formantics.
Susan Christie is the inspiration behind this original concept. Her creations are bold and vibrant, with a range of contemporary prints, ceramics, shelves and cushions, all of which inject personality and an element of fun into any home or office space.
When Susan created the brand she asked herself “how can I bridge the gap between art and design and keep it affordable?” She wanted to create a venture that offered artwork and home accessories that had a similar vibe, and where accessible to New Zealanders. The formantic’s vibe is certainly a feast for the senses with colour, texture and pattern coming together to create positive, uplifting interiors.
Susan believes art is never viewed in isolation but is influenced and brought to life by the elements that surround it. “I am excited about providing New Zealanders with a new way to purchase art and new and imaginative ways to style their artwork. Our circular floating shelf is an important styling element which enables our customers to curate interesting wall installations with plants, art objects and prints.”
Four years ago Susan gave up her career as a psychologist to complete her Visual Arts degree at Auckland Institute of Technology. She remembers the first few weeks being pretty daunting and wondering if she could cut it with the young ones. However, it seems she worried for nothing because in her first year she won the Painting award and in her final year she was asked to exhibit at the prestigious Gus Fisher Gallery for the Eden Art School Awards. “I absolutely loved every minute of art school; particularly the opportunity to question and push the boundaries between art, fashion, design and popular culture.” It is clear that Susan views art and the environment as one unique vision coming together to create an entire sense of space.
